Construction and renovations always seem like an overwhelming task. This can be especially true on an island like Bermuda. Islands often have fewer choices and higher costs just by nature of being so remote.
It’s important to find somebody who can make you feel comfortable about the process and help you find ways to save money. You want somebody who knows the island and has been studying and working in the Bermuda architectural industry as a lifelong passion.
Enter: Golden Arch Design Group.
Torie Hollis, owner and partner of Golden Arch Design, is a native of Bermuda who fell in love with its unique architecture at a very young age. Becoming an apprentice at 12, he has been following that passion ever since.
Bermuda’s distinct architectural design makes Torie proud to be in the industry but he also knows the value of international collaboration, which is why Golden Arch is partnered with the Canadian company, Triangle Wood Estates, run by Canadian native, Alex Mulholland.
Torie's talent was recognized as an apprentice while working at his first job in an Architectural Firm. This recognition led the firm to recommend he attend school in Canada to expand his knowledge and grow as a designer. George Brown College in Toronto is known for its elite architectural program and that’s where the collaboration between the companies started.
The combined talents of Torie and Alex were recognized immediately and a large project in Canada was offered to them as soon as they graduated. Golden Arch Design Group and Triangle Wood Estates were born.
Canadian clients saw the value of working with architectural technologists with international experience and an eye for sustainable design and water conservation. They gained these attributes by undertaking design in terrains as challenging to build in as Bermuda and Canada's wilderness. This has made them a powerful team who have been utilized by both Bermuda and Toronto clients, alike.
Mission Statement
Golden Arch’s mission statement says it all, “We offer turnkey solutions that will help make a client’s dream project a reality. Our services provide a complete design and build master plan with development programming that allows our clients to obtain the services, information, and candid advice required to bring their projects to completion under one roof.”
Both companies derived their names with a Bermudian inspiration. Golden Arch Design Group came from the famous Keystone/Moongate arches that pepper the island.
Triangle Wood Estates was inspired by the triangle of international investors that backed a number of Alex and Torie’s first projects. Canadian, American and Bermudian investors all had a hand in getting this successful collaboration started.
Their first few collaborative projects were done in environmentally sensitive areas in both Canada and Bermuda. They have drawn on this valuable experience as they moved forward into more mainstream projects.
International Benefits
A big boost from this collaboration to Bermudians looking for an Architectural Technologist is put perfectly by Alex, “We have close working relationships with a network of exceptional Architects, Engineers, Planners and government officials, which allow us to draw on a wide knowledge base when designing and project managing projects in both Canada and Bermuda.”
And indeed, they have brought the knowledge from both countries to Golden Arch’s Bermudian projects and offer a unique international perspective that is hard to find. Canadian and Bermudian investors alike have seen their value in both countries. This also provides Bermudian investors an opportunity to get their hands in the booming housing and development industry currently sweeping Canada.
It doesn’t stop there, both companies have a goal of not only expanding their reach with luxury designs and developing but as a lifelong Bermudian, Torie is also striving to offer more affordable development and design for those on the island who need it. It is a win-win for the economy of the island and helps Bermudian families across the board.
