Becoming a resident of Bermuda
As of 15th December 2015 Bermuda the Residential Certificate Policy, which allows for non-bermudians who “have substantial means and/or have a continuous source of annual income” to apply to reside on a permanent basis in Bermuda. It does not grant the Certificate Holder the right to work while in Bermuda. Acquiring property in Bermuda
- Non-Bermudians must obtain a license from the Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Public Safety prior to purchasing a property in Bermuda (Page 68, Section 84 of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act)
- Non-Bermudians are permitted to buy only selected properties in Bermuda with an Annual Rental Value (ARV) of $126,000.00 or higher for a house and an Annual Rental Value (ARV) of $25,800.00 or higher for a condominium (Bermuda Immigration and Protection Regulations 2007)
- Non-Bermudians are not permitted to buy vacant land, unless they are married to a Bermudian, or one of your parents is Bermudian. (Page 72, Section 90 of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act)
- Non-Residents can only acquire condominium units in “special development areas” approved for foreign ownership. (Page 73, Section 92 of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act)
Retiring in Bermuda
To retire in Bermuda you and/or your spouse must own residential property in Bermuda or have been gainfully employed in Bermuda for at least five years. (Source: Government of Bermuda knowledge base)
Becoming a citizen of Bermuda
You can apply for Bermudian status if:
- You are a person who is 18 years of age or older, who has been a resident of Bermuda for at least 10 years, and who meets certain other criteria (Page 20, Section 19(1) of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act),
- You are a spouse, widow or widower of a Bermudian
